When to Use Pool Shock

  • Weekly maintenance

    Shock target: raise free chlorine (FC) to 10‑20 ppm, maintain this high‑chlorine level for several hours, and allow it to drop back to the normal range of 1‑3 ppm the next day.

  • Algae growth

    When heavy green/black algae are present: calcium hypochlorite shock alone is often insufficient and algaecide is required as a supplement. For severe green‑algae infestations, brush the pool walls first before performing the shock treatment.

  • After rain / Heavy usage

    buildup of sweat, sunscreen and skin debris causes the water to turn hazy, with no green algae yet developed.

  • Cloudy water
